Badminton: IOC appointed ambassador for the Believe in Sports campaign.

World Badminton’s champion PV Sindhu and Canadian’ Badminton gold medalist Michelle Li have been nominated as athlete ambassadors for Olympic’s ‘Believe in Sport’ campaign aimed at preventing competition manipulation. This was announced by the World Badminton Federation on Monday. The two shuttlers have been global ambassadors for the BWF.

Badminton Association of India (BAI)

BAI General secretary Ajay Singhania said- “It is a recognition of his loyalty, fairness and honesty to the Games.” She has played this game with full dedication in her career. BAI is very pleased to have its champion player selected for this honor at the world level.

Sindhu said in a statement- “It is an honor for me to be selected by the IOC as an Ambassador. Will stand alongside my fellow athletes in the fight against manipulation in competitions. Together we can be strong.”

IOC’s Believe in Sport

The IOC’s Believe in Sport campaign aims to raise awareness among athletes, encourage and officials of the threat of competition manipulation. If the course or result of a competition is fixed in advance, sport becomes meaningless and loses its credibility.

PV. SINDHU

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is known as PV Sindhu, she is an Indian professional badminton player and the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal, the other being Saina Nehwal.

She became the youngest recipient of India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri in March 2015. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal. She is one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal.

Michelle Li

Michelle Li is a Canadian badminton player from Markham, Ontario. Michelle Li is the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion and the first Canadian to win an individual gold medal in women’s singles badminton at the Commonwealth Games.

Michelle Li Achievements

She has won gold in both singles and doubles at the Pan American Games and won the singles and team event titles from the Pan Am Badminton Championships. Michelle also won singles, doubles, and mixed team titles at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
